Inventors can get free assistance with invention development, patent protection, and many other aspects of business from the SBDC, inventor organizations, colleges and universities.

Assistance comes in many different forms, from free books, software, seminars and counseling. What's more important, is that the assistance is qualified. It's common sense, but there are a lot of supposed experts on invention who give some incredibly misleading advice.

Here are your primary sources for free assistance with invention development. Click on the links for more information:

  1. SBDCs. Small Business Development Centers have helped inventors and small businesses successfully launch their innovations for years. Most provide free counseling and an array of seminars on innovation.
  2. Patents in Commerce Affiliates. Some SBDCs are Patents in Commerce (PIC) Affiliates and have broader ability. They provide counseling and seminars on most facets of invention. They also have a substantial library of books and software for patent and trademark searching. Even patent writing. Again, their services are free. They all provide free start-up kits to help inventors start out right.
  3. Inventor Organizations. There are several excellent ones in the US and Canada who have experienced innovators you can network with.
  4. US Patent Office Depository Libraries. There are over 100 PTDLs in the US with people who can help you with patent searching.
  5. Colleges and Universities. Many provide seminars and workshops where inventors can learn about the invention development and patenting process.

So, take the lifeline and get help developing your ideas and inventions into real products and real profit. America is counting on you.

A word of caution: The advice of an invention promotion company is never considered "free".
